Just Another Nigga Dead

The saying goes there’s only two things in life are promised: Death and Taxes. Well for Black America death seems to be the only tax we end up paying just to live in this soulless country. The names change but the story seem to stay the same regardless of the city we live in, the car we drive, or whose backyard we are in. It always seems that Black people are never at the right place at the right time even when we are just that. Even when we're just chilling at our grandmother's home - we are still out of place, still mistaken, and still assassinated. Where do we go to find solace and peace from the ravenous and hate-filled overseers who swear to protect and serve us? Where is our safe space? Where do we go to escape?

Many will point to the fact that there was a Black officer at the scene which should in theory complicate things all the more, however, any Black person can tell you this is not a White or Black thing - this is a Black or Blue thing! This is a Life or Death thing! And this is a We Are Tired Of This Shit thing!

There are far too many instances of unprovoked police brutality which have taken the lives of so many men, women, and children who dared to be nothing but who they are. To no fault of their own, their life was arbitrarily snatched away from them and all that remains is a week full of hashtags and $1 million settlement from the city which can never replace the loss of that family member.

Regardless of the Dow's highs and lows, whom ever is an office as President, the winner of this year's Super Bowl, or which ever album is number one, the fact has always remained that Black people have been and unfortunately will always be targets for police in America. We don’t have any more tears to cry nor do we have any more bullets to load. At this moment all we have is disgust. Disgust in the country that our ancestors were forced to build and the very lineage of evil which once hung them and now shoots us. We are disgusted in its priorities to all causes but ours, we are disgusted in their silence and complicit ways, we are disgusted that body cameras do nothing but show us what we've seen too many times before, and we are disgusted because we've faced the reality that not a damn thing will change.

America, you need a miracle
Beyond spiritual
I need a realer view
I hold a mirror to it
These ain’t new problems, they just old ways
I see one time turn sunshine into Freddie Gray
Just another nigga dead, just another nigga dead

- Pusha T (Sunshine) (2015)
